Monster Mash Finals 26th September 2004

Savage takes 3rd 4th & 5th in the Monster Mash National Series

.
.

On the 26th September, the Max Bashing track held the Finals of the Monster Mash national truck series, 6 rounds at different off-road tracks in the South East UK. This produced interesting venues and some great racing. 50 driver entries turned up for the 6th and final round at the Max Bashing track in Guilford.

The weather was clear with sunshine, however the days prior had seen much rain so the track provided lots of grip for the first few heats. Team Heaths RC Models were ready and waiting, as Karl Dilworth, Tony Gomez & Joe Joyce were all in the top 5 Overall positions battling for 2nd & 3rd places Overall.

The heats got under way at 10 o'clock sharp. Karl had a fantastic first heat setting his own FTQ and qualified 3rd fastest of the day. Joe had a good first heat and set's his best FTQ time and qualified 7th overall. Tony had trouble with set-up issues in the first 3 heats, leaving himself with a lot to do. Heat 4 Tony pulls out all the stops and hits the 5 lap mark which qualifies him 13th overall. Craig Summers qualifies in 12th place with view to (bumping up) if you finish 1st or 2nd in the B final.

B Final

The competition was really good in all finals as the class of driver didn't really reflect the A, B, C, system. Tony, Phil Cracknell & Craig had it all to do with 10 drivers lined up for the start. The staggered start was clean and Craig took 1st position into the first corner with one of the Max Bashing crew Warwick Kirby gunning him down all the way. The 2 drivers were clear by lap 3 and changing places until lap 4 when Craig's spur gear gave up. This left Tony well clear of 3rd and sat back to take 2nd  knowing he would then be bumped up into the A final.

A Final

The starting line-up, Karl 3rd Joe 7th and Tony in 10th. Karl make's a good start and drive's into 2nd place by the first corner and stayed their until engine issues took him out of the race. Joe's start was steady and pushed up to 3rd position by lap 6 and through the pit stops into 2nd. Lap 10 and rear drive is lost, causing stress on the front diff and it gives up on lap 11 finishing 4th, very unfortunate to not finish the race. Tony Gomez raced his way from the back of the field into 6th on lap 7, pit stop pushes him into 4th then engine issues forced him out of the race on lap 8.

.

Although the team had a tough day at the extremely demanding Max Bashing track. The overall points standing were very close. After 6 rounds only 25 points covering 2nd 3rd 4th & 5th places, only 5 points separating 2nd & 3rd. The Team would like to Thank all drivers & Venues in the National Monster Mash  series, we look forward to racing again next season.

Final Standings after 6 rounds for Team Heaths RC Models

Joe Joyce 3rd Overall with 484 points
