Model boat event
A Westcliff powerboat racing champion has organised a charity vent on an Essex lake. Stephen Hart, of Silverdale, has set up an open day event for wannabe racers at Hall Farm, in Althorne on Sunday.
The 50-year-old model racer has won the UK national championships nine times and is third in the European Championships.
He said: "The weather should be perfect for those showing off their remote control skills. I just hope we have lots of young people turn up. I used to take model racing more seriously years ago, but now its all for fun. I still get a great buzz from racing though."
All money raised from the event will go towards Children in Need.
Mr Hart who got involved with model racing with his father, Derrick, has been sponsored by Heaths RC Models, in London Road, Benfleet.

Salou
Tony Gomez, who is Heath's engineer is racing in Salou in Spain along with Barry Mesner
and Phill Cracknell who are long term customers of ours. They will be racing in an
international big scale racing event, on astro turf in the sunshine of Spain!! There are
around 65 drivers booked in from half a dozen European countries.
